Each year we hold our annual Sheltie Egg Hunt. I think 2010's Egg Hunt was the fourteenth in a row (there were some way in the past, however). This year we had several visiting Shelties take part in the Egg Hunt, as well as our own. It always takes the newbies a while to catch onto the fact that these strange, misshapen "balls" can be eaten, but eventually one of the veterans cracks an egg, and the light bulbs begin to turn on for everyone! I use safe food coloring, and the dogs eat the shells and all. It provides good roughage for them, and perhaps some extra calcium. At any rate, ask a Sheltie -- eggs are good food!
Bindi (above left) and Nightie (above right) are veterans of the Egg Hunt, and they took right off with their prizes. Yum!
Oreo found a yellow egg, but it took him some time to crack the shell and eat it. Oreo is a very delicate eater. Verity jumped up on the big dogloo and found her egg. She jumped off with it but wouldn't eat it until one of the others had cracked it open. As always and very strangely, Rowena carefully chose a pink egg. (Dang, my photo of her turned out blurry, so I didn't include it.) Rowena has always chosen and eaten only pink eggs. I wonder if the pink dye makes them smell better to her, or if she is just girly!
Young Mattie made out like a bandit even though this was his first Egg Hunt. He quickly became the scavenger. Matt waited for others to bite into their eggs, then darted in and snatched up their fragments. He probably ate more egg than any of the other dogs!
A great time was had by all!
